Case Study: EXAIR Interactive Plant Floor Experience

The Factory Became the Interface.
The Interface Produced the Sale.

When Engineers Can See It, They Can Spec It.

EXAIR needed a better way to show how its compressed air and fluid management solutions fit within food and beverage production. DBS created an interactive plant-floor experience where engineers, plant managers, buyers, and sales teams can explore a production line, open application hotspots, and quickly connect manufacturing processes with the right EXAIR solutions.

Designed for the web, trade shows, customer presentations, and field sales, the experience simplifies product discovery across a complex technical portfolio.

Goals

Clarity Was the Goal.
Every Feature Followed.

EXAIR needed customers to identify the right solution faster, and sales teams needed an effective way to demonstrate value in the moment.

  • Product Clarity

Help customers see where EXAIR products fit within production workflows and what each solution helps them solve.

  • Sales Enablement

Give sales representatives an engaging tool for trade shows, customer meetings, and product demonstrations.

  • Guided Discovery

Move users from manufacturing applications to relevant EXAIR solutions without sending them through traditional product category pages.

Challenges

Breadth Is an Asset.
Complexity Is the Obstacle.

EXAIR offers nearly 20 product families spanning compressed air, spray technology, cooling, conveying, static control, vacuum generation, and industrial housekeeping. While that breadth is a strength, it also makes product discovery more challenging.

Customers often know the production problem they're solving, but not which product to start with. The experience needed to simplify exploration without sacrificing the technical detail engineers and buyers depend on.

  • Product Breadth

Organize a large technical portfolio so users can move through it quickly.

  • Sales Utility

Create one experience for website visitors, trade shows, customer education, and sales presentations.

  • Application Context

Connect EXAIR products to the production processes where they are used.

  • Cross-Device Usability

Make the interaction easier to follow across desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Strategy

From Products to Production Processes

DBS shifted the experience from a product-first approach to an application-first one. Instead of browsing product categories, users begin with the production process, exploring the plant floor through interactive hotspots that connect each application to the right EXAIR solution. This approach helps technical buyers identify relevant products faster while giving sales teams a more intuitive, visual way to guide customer conversations.

Solution

The Plant Floor Became the Interface

DBS designed and developed an interactive plant-floor experience that places EXAIR's solutions within a realistic food and beverage manufacturing environment. Users explore the facility through 15 contextual hotspots, each connecting a production process to relevant EXAIR products for cleaning, cooling, drying, conveying, spraying, and static control.

Core Elements

Interactive plant-floor navigation

15 contextual hotspots

Hover previews and full product modals

Zoom-and-pan desktop interaction

Guided navigation and smooth animations

Expandable architecture for future products and environments

Responsive design for desktop, tablet, and mobile

Development

A Rich Experience Without Extra Weight

DBS refined hotspot placement, zoom behavior, animations, responsive interactions, and visual hierarchy throughout development.

The high-resolution plant floor graphic was optimized to keep page weight manageable, while modal imagery loads only when a user interacts with a trigger point. Custom CSS and JavaScript kept the interface clean, with WCAG AA considerations for contrast, keyboard navigation, assistive text, and labeling in the markup

Results

A Sales Tool Customers Can Understand Quickly

The finished experience gives EXAIR a flexible product education and sales asset for website visitors, trade shows, customer meetings, and field sales conversations.

Technical products become easier to evaluate because users see them in application context.

Sales teams can move from explanation to demonstration faster.

Customers get a more direct path from production challenge to product understanding.
